Eric Khoo Heng Pheng (AMN)

Early Life and Career
Eric Khoo Heng Peng was born in Tengkera, Malacca, and has had a distinguished career in business and public relations. He served as the Company Director of Suka Chemicals in Petaling Jaya and worked as a consultant in PR and marketing. His business ventures extended into logistics, engineering, warehousing, and property development. Additionally, he was a member of the Royal Commonwealth Society and the Chartered Institute of Marketing.

Scouting Journey
Eric Khoo began his scouting journey as a Cub Scout at the age of nine in 1965. He later joined the 7th Fort Sea Scouts in 1969 and earned the prestigious King’s Scout Award as a Sea Scout in 1973. His dedication to scouting led him to serve in various leadership roles, including as a Rover Scout Leader and Scoutmaster at MAZ International. He also held key administrative and international positions, notably serving as the International Commissioner for Persekutuan Pengakap Malaysia (PPM).

Beyond national responsibilities, Eric Khoo played a significant role in global scouting. He was the Secretary of the King’s Scouts Brotherhood Malaysia and served as Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Regional (APR) Scout Committee. He also chaired the 25th APR Scout Jamboree in Thailand in 2006. His contributions to the worldwide scouting movement culminated in his tenure as a member of the World Scout Committee from 2009 to 2014.

Eric was also instrumental in bringing the World Scout Bureau from Geneva to Kuala Lumpur.

In recognition of his outstanding service to scouting, Eric Khoo Heng Peng received numerous prestigious awards from various national scout organizations, including:

  • Distinguished Service Cross – Scout Association of Hong Kong

  • President Scout Award – Boy Scouts of the Philippines

  • Silver Eagle Award – Scout Association of Japan

  • Distinguished Service Award – Singapore Scout Association

  • White Tiger Award – Bangladesh Scouts

  • Distinguished Service Award – Gerakan Pramuka Indonesia

His lifelong dedication to scouting and youth development has left a lasting impact on the movement, both in Malaysia and internationally.

The Eric Khoo Challenge trophy serves as a tribute to his memory and contributions in scouting.
